My Favorite Authors...
When you sell a man a book, you don't sell him 12 ounces
of paper and ink and glue - you sell him a whole new life."
- Christopher Morley
"Read, read, read. Read everything - trash, classics, good
and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter
who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read!
You'll absorb it."
  - William Faulkner
Books.  They're everywhere in my house.  Every room has at least one bookcase (well, if the back of the toilet counts, lol). Seems as if we always need "one more" bookcase.  Sigh.
The best gift to give a child is the ability to read and free access to a wide variety of books.

Some, only some of my favorite authors:
Anne McCaffrey has written some of my favorite worlds, the Dragonriders of Pern series, Petaybee, the Tower books, and the planet of Doona, to name a few.  Her books are some of my favorite treasures.
Robert Heinlein wrote an amazing book called "Stranger in a Strange Land" that even became the inspiration for a church.  Find out more about him here.  If you haven't read "Stranger" you owe it to yourself.  Email me and tell me if you grok.
Guy Gavriel Kay wrote a trilogy called The Fionavar Tapestry.  I recommend it if you enjoy archetypes.
If you've never experienced Terry Prachett's Discworld series you have been culturally deprived. I rarely make it through a single page of one of his books without laughing out loud, or worse, snorting.  You owe it to yourself to check out his books!
It was in "Wyrd Sisters" that I met my hero, Granny Weatherwax and knew what I wanted to be when I grow up.
Check out a fan site .  For more fun stuff like Terry Pratchett quotes and artwork from the books, check this site out.
After reading this list of authors, I'm sure you won't be surprised to learn that I'm also a fan of the Harry Potter series.  Check out how well you know the books by playing this addictive trivia game.
Two more authors I can't get enough of:  Nora Roberts (can this woman tell a good story or what?) and Laurell Hamilton (don't know which is my favorite, Anita Blake or Merry Gentry!).
Let me share with you the book I loan out most often:

"Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time" by
Marcus Borg.  No matter what your spiritual path may be, this book is a worthy read.  You may not agree with what you read, but it will get you thinking about your own beliefs.
Another favorite Christian theologian:  Dr. John Shelby Spong.
If you're in an abusive relationship, or you know someone who is, I recommend this book:  "Getting Free" by Ginny McCarthy.  Do the worksheets, all of them.  It takes two to create the cycle of abuse.  We can't change anyone but ourselves...this book helps that process.
Another book I loan frequently, "CoDependent No More" by Melody Beattie.  Where recovery began for many people, this straightforward, personal explanation of what codependency is and who has it gives you the option to change unhealthy behaviors and stressful relationships, freeing you to rediscover hope, guidance, and encouragement.
